Bentley Can't Get Vehicle Control Patent Axed As Abstract
Troutman Sanders was mentioned in a Law360 story titled, “ Bentley Can't Get Vehicle Control Patent Axed As Abstract,” for the firm’s representation of Jaguar Land Rover Ltd. In June 2018, Jaguar brought a patent infringement suit against Bentley, alleging the company had copied features from the terrain response system in Jaguar’s Range Rover. On June 26, a Virginia federal judge denied Bentley’s motion to dismiss, writing, “Because the claims of the patent are directed at both improvements in computer functionality and providing concrete, physical means of implementing the functionality, the court concludes that the [patent] is not directed at an abstract idea.” Robert Angle and Laura Anne Kuykendall represent Jaguar.
