Daily Journal: Labor and Employment Roundtable
Partner Mark Payne took part in the Daily Journal/California Lawyer’s roundtable series, which is being published in the December issue of the California Lawyer. The roundtable of experts focused on new California laws arising from the “Me Too” movement and California’s new legal standards for establishing independent contractor status. Payne pointed out that the new laws may unintentionally backfire against the alleged “Me Too” victims. He also noted, “the ‘Me Too’ movement has inspired novel legal claims” including “shareholder derivative actions against directors and officers, alleging that company management didn’t take these issues seriously enough, or that they oversaw or allowed workplace cultures that mistreated women or other protected groups.”
