In Georgia’s “Murderville,” Devonia Inman May Finally Have a Chance to Prove His Innocence
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and The Intercept have published articles featuring the latest developments in the case of Devonia Inman, a man convicted of murder in South Georgia and one of Troutman Sanders’ pro bono clients. Inman is serving a life-without-parole sentence for the 1998 murder of a Taco Bell night manager, even though DNA evidence discovered years after his trial strongly suggests another man committed the murder. On July 22, a superior court judge rejected the state’s request to dismiss Inman’s lawsuit which seeks to overturn his conviction. Tom Reilly is quoted in The Intercept story, saying, “We are pleased that the court denied the state’s motion to dismiss and look forward to proceeding with discovery and a hearing on the merits of Mr. Inman’s claims.” The case was the subject of two podcasts, Murderville and Breakdown: Murder Below the Gnat Line. Reilly, David Chaiken, Tiffany Bracewell, and Majda Muhic are representing Inman in the habeas litigation and have been supported by others in Atlanta. Share on LinkedIn here.
