Tilly's Employment Lawsuit Could Have California-wide Impact
Mark Payne was quoted in an Orange County Business Journal article titled, “Tilly's Employment Lawsuit Could Have California-wide Impact.” The article discussed a recent California Court of Appeals decision resulting from a lawsuit against California-based fashion retailer Tilly’s. The court’s decision, which found that on-call employees would be entitled to 2-4 hours of extra reporting time pay if they were required to call in to find out whether to report for their scheduled shift, even if they were told not to physically report to work. Payne said the court’s decision is a “meaningful departure from how companies have handled this” rule for the past 75 years, and “all California businesses need to be aware of how this decision impacts their scheduling practices.”
