After decades of high-stakes commercial litigation, some of which continues to this day, Tony has transitioned to representing immigrants in removal proceedings. Working with firm associates and law students, Tony has achieved a number of notable victories in the Court of Appeals, BIA, and immigration courts.
Tony is a fellow of The Pepper Center for Public Service. The Pepper Center draws on the talents of the firm’s retired partners and senior attorneys to wrestle with tough problems facing our communities. Through the Center, these attorneys study, analyze, and work to resolve problems that affect the lives of people in our communities.
In immigration cases, Tony has represented many non-citizens who seek asylum or other relief from removal. He has been successful in cases on behalf of non-citizens from Angola, Cameroon, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico. Representation of these clients often begins with seeking their release from custody, followed by litigating the merits of their claim.
Tony also has vast experience defending pharmaceutical, medical device, and other product companies in complex litigation around personal injury and economic loss. For example, he was trial counsel in Tadai v. Eli Lilly and Co. (Los Angeles Superior Court), which resulted in a defense verdict in November 2011. Tony has played a major role in multidistrict litigation cases in which the firm served as national counsel. His experience includes class actions involving pharmaceutical marketing practices, orthopedic bone screws, and products such as cement siding.
