As pro bono director and counsel, Madeline leads and facilitates the pro bono practice across several of the firm's offices, including New York, Washington, D.C., Boston, Princeton, and Rochester. She provides direct representation to pro bono clients and maintains an active practice that is driven by her passion to provide quality representation to underserved and vulnerable communities. Madeline builds relationships with community partners, nonprofits, and legal service organizations to provide unmet legal needs on a national basis.
She focuses her personal pro bono practice on racial equity and criminal justice reform, areas that became increasingly important to her during her undergraduate career at the University of Michigan. While at Michigan, Madeline volunteered at juvenile detention facilities and prisons, and peer-led a sociology course on mass incarceration, the carceral state, and the legal system.
Madeline's experience at the University of Michigan drove her to begin her career as a public defender in the Bronx where she represented thousands of indigent community members obtaining full acquittals at trial and advantageous plea agreements. She then went on to successfully litigate complex civil matters at a large firm, litigating cases in both federal and state court, representing clients in governmental investigations, and advising clients on regulatory compliance. After broadening her legal experience, Madeline's passion for providing legal services to those who cannot afford it made her return to work that feeds her soul – pro bono.
Madeline graduated magna cum laude from Albany Law School. In addition to receiving her J.D., she was also named as a Charles H. Revson Law Student Public Interest Fellow, a Bergstrom Child Welfare Law Fellow, and received the Howard A. Levine Award for excellence in juvenile justice and child welfare. Additionally, Madeline is a proud alumnus of The University of Michigan where she received her bachelor's degree in philosophy, with a minor in criminal justice.
