With a proud tradition dating back to 1926, the Richmond office serves local, regional, national, and international clients, and provides the full complement of practices necessary to meet their most important legal and lobbying needs. Our clients span all major sectors, including finance and financial institutions, energy, manufacturing, industrial, real estate, health care, tobacco, technology, local government, and more.
As home to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia (the renowned "Rocket Docket"), the Virginia Supreme Court, and the Virginia Court of Appeals, Richmond is a hub for some of the most complex and significant litigation in the U.S., and we have a deep bench of litigators who regularly practice before these and other courts across the Commonwealth and across the U.S. As the capital of the Commonwealth, Richmond is also a crossroads for legislative and regulatory affairs, and our administrative attorneys and government relations specialists are intimately involved in shaping state law, regulation, and policy. Several of our attorneys have held senior positions in federal and state government, including the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Fannie Mae, the Virginia Attorney General's Office, and Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. We draw on this experience, together with the firm's wholly-owned government relations subsidiary, Troutman Pepper Strategies, to provide cross-disciplinary legislative and regulatory advocacy. Finally, our transactional attorneys – corporate, finance, and real estate – help to round out the office with some of the largest and most important deals in Virginia and beyond, while also serving Richmond's exploding entrepreneurial and startup community.
We are committed to diversity and inclusion within our office and we work closely with a number of affinity bar associations to promote policies and practices designed to transform our profession. Our attorneys and staff are deeply involved in the local community, from business and economic development to arts and culture. We serve on numerous boards, support local initiatives and provide financial and pro bono support to a range of different local and statewide service organizations.
